September has been a busy month, and I have loved every minute. The change of seasons brings a change of colours. The green leaves of summer are fading to autumnal oranges and reds. The view from my window is still rolling hills of green, but often hidden by thick layers of dense fog as the furthest hills blend with the sky. Summer has gone, the heating is on.
So, maybe madness struck me when I decided to pop up to Castle Hill on one of the coldest evenings, to get a shot of the clear sky. To those not local to Huddersfield: this is Huddersfield's highest point. You can see for 10 miles in the distance.
The sun was golden, and not a cloud in sight. I met different folks enjoying the sunset in their own moments of quiet. I met a woman who, earlier that morning, had converted to Islam. She was doing her PhD in Criminology (something I was also interested in at the same University - which we could both see from our viewpoint on the Hill). She recognised my Aunt, who had worked in the police force for many years - helping women in domestic abuse, who now gives talks.
We spoke at length about her surviving three cancers despite not yet being 40, and her love of reading.
After an hour or so, after taking some photos, I left as the sky was almost blue from the setting sun. I looked back and saw a family of 4 with their dog. This was the perfect silhouette. I shouted across the car park at the Hill, asking if I could take a photo (showing them my cameras). They were happy to have me take them, and I took some shots. I sent them an email with the photos.
The next day, I received this:
"Very professional photographer and very creative, we loved our photos specially it was special moment as our friend recently diagnosed with cancer and we just toke her out for a walk to cheer her and we were trying to take some pictures and we got this amazing photograph who offered us photos and she was so happy and when she saw the pics she was amazed and this gonna be long lasting memory of that day. Thank you 🙏🏾"
